Over the past two decades overwhelming evidence from new discoveries shows that birds are dinosaurs and that all of the preconditions necessary for flight evolved in ground-dwelling dinosaurs. Among the new discoveries are arboreal raptors with four wings that glided from trees and tyrannosaurs with long display feathers. The majority of the fossils come from China’s Liaoning province and Inner Mongolia and are the remains of creatures that lived from 160 to 125 million years ago. Many are in an exquisite state preserving bone, feathers, skin, and even color. Dynamic models and artwork will being these feathery fossils to life, including a life-size model of two newly discovered tyrannosaurs engaged in a feathery courtship display.
New research in Guatemala, the heartland of Maya civilization (about 900 B.C.E. to 900 C.E.), has revealed fabulous jade caches including the first complete headdress from the tomb of a Maya queen and the earliest known depiction of the Maya creation myth. These precious items, never before seen outside of Guatemala, will tell the story of the Maya, their incredible accomplishments, and their jade-hued jungle paradise.
